Description:

Saint Augustine was bishop of Hippo, North Africa, during the 5th century of the waning Roman Empire. He would leave behind two famous literary works that were the first of their kind: Confessions, and the City of God. Both books would provide the theological foundation that has influenced Anglican, Roman Catholic, and Protestant Churches to this very day.

 

This class will mainly center on the City of God, focusing on the socio-economic and cultural issues of the times that led to Rome being sacked by Alaric, king of the Goths in AD 410.

Course Details:

This is a 1-semester course. Class begins Tuesday, September 9, 2025, and will officially end Friday, January 23, 2026.

Weekly classes will meet on Tuesday & Friday from Noon to 1:30 PM CST. Do note your time zone.

Holidays will be Thanksgiving week (Nov 24–28).
